On this double page spread columns are not used in order to organise the text. However paragraphs are which help to break up the page rather than a large chunk of text. This will engage the reader as the target audience in which I am appealing to do not want to read a page of text. The images of located on the page according to the text scripted. The head line is used in a font that is very clear read but also stands out on the page in order to engage the target audience. The page is clearly set out in a way that make everything clear to read and understand. Nothing is too crammed to make the page look overcrowded. Colour plays a great role in the layout of the page as it allows the target audience to be drawn to the images included. They are also really girly ie pink in order to draw in the target audience. There is a photograph of the writer in order to give her credit. It also shows the stylish side to her to show a glimpse of her personality relating to the nil styles for prom. There is also images of objects Ie the nail varnishes to give more information on what is being talked about throughout the main body of text. Captions are also used on this image in order to add more factual information linking to the images. The target audience may assume that this is a female orientated due to it being style and fashion. The language used is not colloquial but does not proceed to be formal. There is also a closed social distance between the writer and the reader making them feel a lot more comfortable with the magazine. The semantic field of this article is makeup and fashion which also links to a female target audience.

Recreation of a front cover

The first image below is the recreation I made of a front cover of a prom magazine. I have also attached the original in which I used to copy from which is the second image. This allowed me to understand which features had to be present on the front cover of a prom magazine. It also gave me an opportunity to decide which features that I would like to keep or challenge when creating my own final product.

Regional and National magazine comparison

Below is a contrast in which I made between a regional and national magazine for the following items;
  • style
  • layout
  • features
After receiving my brief this allowed me to gather information on both types of magazine in order to determine which one I would like to create as part of my coursework.

Regional magazine research

I conducted some research into the magazines that are regional in the North East. I looked at several features such as the content, layout, language/register, images colour scheme and the font/style. This contributed to the ideas following my brief as they allowed me to start thinking about the typical features that should be included. It also allows me to start to think about the target audience and the items in which they would like to see on the magazine.

Audience inspiration

I recorded an interview with ....  , who's is in her final year of secondary school, in order to gather initial ideas of what she would like to see in a regional magazine of the North East. This helped with my ideas from the brief as I got an insight into the audience of a regional magazine and what they would like to see inside of it. I feel this would then allow me to create a magazine they are interested in and would relate to them due to the features I place inside of it.

Recreation of a banner

The first image below is the recreation I completed of the other image that was in the form of a banner. I went on the internet to find images of the dresses from prom girl (a prom website) and the font from the cool text website. I then used a grey and white gradient background from PowerPoint. I feel these do look quite similar but have slight differences that make them unique.

Moodboard;

This moodboard sets out the initial ideas of my magazine in which I could take from. I thought due to the time of time of year, prom is near and I therefore chose this as the genre for my magazine. A lot of people I know are preparing for this season around the world. A magazine could then be created to suit people regionally or nationally. I further chose this genre as I had great excitement for my own prom however when looking for inspiration for items such as my dress, does and hair there was only the internet to rely on which was quite limited. I wish there was a magazine in which I could of used for research.
When creating my own magazine on this genre I used this moodboard for  general inspiration that was on a general level for things to create and include through the creation process.

A2 media brief

The coursework brief;

The first four pages from an original regional magazine. If this is done as a group task, each member of the group will be asked to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house of style.
Two of the following options must be chosen;
  • a radio advertisement for the magazine,
  • two hyperlinked pages from the website,
  • a billboard advertisement  for the magazine.

AS Reflection

 Reflection;
In terms of my AS coursework I feel there are certain features in which I now feel I wish I could change and Hereford improve on. Firstly is on the front cover in which one item would be chmaging several of the fonts I used. When creating my magazine is believed these were the perfect fit at the time for the genre and matched magazine perfectly. However when I relooked at the final product once the deadline arose I believe there could of been other options. Secondly on the front cover I would also wish to further change the font of my masthead. Once again I believe this matches but I could of chase one of the other options that I narrowed down. On my contents page the main feature which could be changed is the image in which I used for my editors section. When creating the magazine I believed it fit in well however once it had been published to my blog I realised the mise en scène was not quite right. Despite this I really like  the lighting, positioning and mode of address of the model. Finally on the double page spread I feel like more colour could of been introduced in order to break up the text and I only did this one in the middle.

When creating all three of my final products I did struggle with creating the features to put on my contents pages when listing what was on each page/section. I kept running out of ideas for the title and therefore had to conduct more research to build this list. This was the same situation for when I had to create my article. It took me a long time to create the text for this in order to match the context perfectly while also matching the genre and the audience that I had chosen to appeal too.

When creating my coursework again for A2 I will change the way I do certain things. Firstly I will make sure I am 100% sure with all the decisions that I make in order to be fully satisfied with my final product and don't have anything I am unsure of. To do this I will make sure I give myself enough time to finish and not rush a decision to later regret it. Furthermore in order to achieve this I will carefully think about each decision and always make sure it matches my audience, genre and brief. In addition to this I will also try a lot more options in order to maximise which looks the best for my Final products.
